Sperti is a reputable sunlamp manufacturer for decades, our current models are:
- The Fiji Sun Tanning Lamp
- The Vitamin D Lamp, model D/UV-F
- The Psoriasis Lamp, model PH-36F
What safety features and benefits come with Sperti Sunlamps?
- We use premium quality, custom Sperti bulbs that are category specific for each type of device: Tanning Lamp, Vitamin D Lamp, and Psoriasis Lamp.
- You have control of your exposure time. Every Sperti sunlamp unit has a timer dial with automatic turn-off when the desired number of minutes has expired.
- Protective UV eyewear is included with every order, two pair.
- The ballasts that we use are quality electric ballasts (safe), Sperti Sunlamps do NOT use magnetic ballasts.
The information below is primarily about tanning and our Fiji Sun tanning lamp.
Another safety benefit: The home unit advantage.
When you go out into the summer sunshine for a picnic, to the beach, boating, etc., often times you have limited control over your UV exposure. With a personal sunlamp you have total control of your timed UV exposure.
Only want a quick 5 minute tanning session? – No problem, you set the timer dial. Your unit is ready for you 24/7.
How Easy? Just plug into a regular outlet, turn the timer dial to the number of minutes you want to do, put on protective eyewear, then flip the on switch. It turns off automatically for safety when the timer finishes.
Only want to tan your facial area, but the tanning salons only have full body beds?
Our Fiji Sun is an excellent face & sectional body tanner, and for those not wanting a full body salon tan this is a good option to minimize unwanted UV exposure. If you are going to a tanning salon bed only to get a small area of coverage, or perhaps treating a skin condition, our portable Sperti sunlamp may be a better option.
Avoid Sunburns:
The majority of the sunburns occur outdoors and are simply caused by overexposure to the sun’s UV rays. We forgive the castaway on a raft, but for the rest of us there really are few excuses for sun-burning yourself. Sunburning in our youth is extremely damaging long term. The other culprit for a sunburn is the tanning bed. Just like outdoor tanning, too much exposure causes sunburns, but it happens much faster in a tanning bed. An extra 5 minutes in a newer commercial tanning bed can be equivalent to 20 or 30 minutes in direct sunlight. With a Sperti sunlamp at home there is never a rush, and you can gradually increase your exposure time preventing any sunburn.
I just want to get natural Vitamin D, is this safer than tanning?
Our Vitamin D Lamp sessions are only 5 minutes (one to five minutes maximum), and on average users are doing 3 five-minute sessions a week. So, if your concern is the amount of exposure time – the exposure time to generate natural vitamin d is much less UV exposure time than the average tanner uses during a tanning session. Example: everyone agrees that if you can get outdoors in the summer sunshine in short sleeves for 10 or 15 minutes a day, you’ll achieve healthy vitamin d levels. An unscientific and unofficial comparison – this would be equivalent to a few minutes a day of sunlamp exposure or about 3 five-minute sessions per week, on average.
More Sunlamp Safety Information:
Our personal sunlamps can be a safer tanning option (these words including “safer” make anti-tanners angry, but I sincerely back this comment up with an explanation) because you don’t need to ‘rush’ your tan or ‘get your money’s worth’ for your paid session at the salon. If you pay $10 for a tanning bed session, many of us will OVEREXPOSE simply because you paid for the sunbed time and you want to get the most out of your trip & visit, so you get the maximum exposure time. The Coupons, Groupons, & similar promotions are another example of near certain overexposure, it’s a bad formula when one pays for a session and then decides if they wish to maximize the value of what they purchased. – You can use your Sperti UV sunlamp at home without the travel, rush or pressure of wasting paid minutes.
Example:
You have a social event coming up and you want a nice facial tan, a little healthy color. Unless you have a wide open schedule and extra spending money, you probably are not going to properly develop your tan gradually, dropping into the salon and slowly increasing your exposure time to prevent overexposure, and spacing out your sessions, …..right……NO WAY! In reality, you have this tan planned into 3 paid sessions at a salon, you’ve got a busy schedule, right? Remember, most damage is done from sun-burning which is from overexposure, and lots of overexposure comes from ‘rushing your tan’.
Protective eyewear:
Two pair of protective UV eyewear are included free with every sunlamp order.

The Sperti Vitamin D Lamp, model D/UV-F has received special testing and authorization from the FDA allowing us to call it a “Vitamin D Lamp”. Our Vitamin D Lamp is the only FDA recognized ultraviolet product for Vitamin D production in the human body.
Lastly, everyone knows there is a lot of attention focused on the tanning industry, and the FDA oversees UV sunlamps. All of our current Sperti models have undergone laborious testing within just the last few years, are FDA tested and cleared, and are in conformity with performance standards for sunlamp products under 21 CFR 1040.20.
