At age 40, after working indoors for 25 years, I accidentally discovered at a health fair that I was vitamin D deficient to the point that I had osteoporosis. I have a petite athletic build, exercise, calcium is fine. 50,000 toxic units of vitamin D didn’t return my levels to normal, but this lamp did! I’ve had it for over a year. Safe and Easy to use Vitamin D sun lamp
I’m another one of those who can’t tolerate vitamin D supplements so I was happy to find this sun lamp (vitamin D lamp) from Sperti. 🙂 The lamp I received is very well made and very easy to use. The eye glasses that come with the lamp are shaped in such a way that no matter how I turn my head, my eyes are kept safe from the rays while using the lamp. Sperti sent easy to use instructions too. After a horrible winter last year (might be early onset psoriatic arthritis or some other overactive immune system issue, still trying to get a definitive answer), combined with knowledge my vitamin D levels were low, I spent this summer getting regular sun. Achiness vaporized with regular, intentional sunlight exposure, until autumn arrived bringing swollen and stiff joints with it yet again. The sunlamp arrived in a very secure package along with how-to manual and 2 googles. Quite hefty but solidly built. Easy to move around with the handle. No bulbs were broken and you just had to twist the bulbs into their socket. Timer automatically shuts off the light when finish and with a very loud ding like you just finished cooking in the toaster oven.
Very strong light, definitely follow the instructions for easing into it. Your skin will feel tight and a bit pink if you used too much. 5 mins may seem short but it probably all you need. I am up to 5 mins, front and back, everyday. This is great for me because I work inside all day and sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate when I try to get some afternoon sun.

It has to be admitted that the Vitamin D lamp is expensive. I ordered it from the USA with delivery to the UK; delivery charges plus duties took the total price to about £800. But what you get is a serious and hefty unit (metal, not gimcrack plastic) that does exactly what it says on the tin: its bulbs produce UVB light that encourages vitamin D production (about 2,300 IUs for each 5-minute session) and doesn’t tan you.
I felt better after a couple of weeks’ use. The truth is, almost everyone in the UK is very probably deficient in Vitamin D; some people can’t metabolise Vitamin D supplements and besides it’s undoubtedly better to get it the ‘natural’ way: via the sun or (more safely) Sperti’s Vitamin D lamp.

I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in April of this year after I lost vision in one of my eyes and was admitted to the hospital Iwith extremely low vitamin D levels. I was told I needed to increase my vitamin D levels and keep them in the optimal range or I would be living with an increased risk of having an MS relapse and/or further progression of the disease. After I was discharged from the hospital, I started taking 50,000 units of vitamin D a week orally, but after a few months, my vitamin d levels were still not in the normal range. I had to spend 15 mins a day outside almost everyday, sitting in the midday sun, in shorts and a tank top, without sunscreen, for an additional 3 months (in additions to the 50,000 units a week pills) in order to finally get my levels in the optimal range. At this point, it was almost fall and getting cold and I was very scared of how I would avoid a detrimental drop in my levels over the winter and risk a relapse. This is when I decided to purchase a sperti lamp. It arrived quickly and safely packaged. Even though it was a big financial investment, I now have another way to get the much needed UVB rays, throughout the New England winters and on rainy days, to help my body produce the vitamin D needed to lower my risk and give me a better chance of slowing my disability from this awful disease. The lamp is simple and easy to use, I just grab the handle and put it on my bathroom counter, plug it in, put on the safety glasses (two pairs which were included with the lamp) and set the timer for 5 minutes and then put it away. It gives me something proactive and non pharmaceutical to do to try and be as healthy as possible after getting this diagnosis.

I’ve been using this UVB lamp regularly since buying it in July or August, and it definitely has had a noticeable positive effect on my health and wellbeing, likely due to correcting a serious vitamin D deficiency.
The most astonishing result has been that the swelling of a lymph node on the back of my neck completely subsided after being various levels of swollen for 5+ years, which I believe was related to a chronic scalp infection which also drastically improved while using this light. Vitamin D supplements never did that for me, even at doses as high as 10k iu per day, and I’m not sure they ever did much for me to begin with, other than giving me abdominal pain.
I have also noticed that my sleep is significantly better on the days I remember to use the light — now I become naturally drowsy and fall asleep quickly like I used to, and I sleep all the way through the night for a decent amount of hours rather than waking up after 4 or 5 hours of restless sleep like before; plus improved dream quality and recall.
Other than that: Most of my brain fog has dissipated, and I generally have more energy and initiative than I did before. And my lower eyelid has almost completely stopped randomly twitching after 5+ years, though this was a later result and might be more related to getting more potassium in my diet; but I have had adequate potassium in the past without the same result, so I think the vitamin D deficiency must have played some role in that previously.
After doing some research and reading various discussions about it online, I didn’t follow the provided schedule (5 min 3x/week) for the first couple months, as I was sure I had a severe deficiency from mostly staying indoors for 4+ years and needed some serious help. After feeling substantial improvements in my health in response to regular usage of the light, I lowered my exposure to the recommended amount for maintenance, and this seems to be working well. Maybe that was a stupid and reckless thing to do, I don’t know, but I have played fast and loose with the southern sun many times in the past, which is much more powerful than this lamp, so I felt relatively comfortable adding time via exposure to different body sections (i.e. 5min torso, 5min back, 5 min butt and thighs) and additional sessions for a couple months. I understand and accept that this almost certainly voids the warranty, and I will need to buy replacement bulbs sooner… worth it!
I haven’t been to the doctor to get anything tested so I don’t know if I actually have adequate levels of vitamin D or not, but I feel much better than I did before getting the light. I have been and will continue to recommend this light to anyone who can afford it, especially in my city where there are very few sunny days and many people work and spend most of their free time indoors. I will also be purchasing one or two more as Christmas/birthday presents for family.

I purchased the Sperti sunlamp at the urging of my doctor. He’s finding that his patients numbers on labs look great, but they still have symptoms of being D deficient. He bought the lamp for his family and many of his patients have bought it since with resolutions to some medical issues. It’s quick and easy to use. I used it 4 times for 3 minutes with no issues then had to leave for a few months. When I tried to use it again, the lamps wouldn’t turn on. I purchased the Sperti unit after hearing Thomas Delauer’s talk about how lamps are better than supplementation for raising Vit D levels. I’ve been supplementing for years, which brought me from a level of 18 to 50, but could never get my level any higher, so I was eager to try out his method of swapping my daily topical 50,000iu supplement for the lamp. (For me, the topical worked much better than any oral supplement.) For six months now I have been using the lamp as directed. Yesterday I got my test results back from Labcorp indicating that my Vitamin D levels were exactly the same as when I started. For me, the lamp is working just as well as the topical. Now I’m going to add my topical supplement back in and keep using the lamp. Will test and update again in six months.

I’ve had my Sperti Vitamin D lamp for 2 years and love it. During the summer months I am usually able to get my 20-30 minutes of sun exposure almost every day. But in the late fall through early spring I take my Sperti out of storage and place it on the bathroom countertop. After I shower I spend 3-5 minutes per side in front of the lamp as a great way to start my day. That way, throughout the year I am able to keep my vitamin b serum levels between 90 and 100 which is my own personal goal.
