SPERTI SUNLAMP was founded by Dr. George Speri Sperti, pictured at left. Sperti was the recipient of numerous degrees and awards for his work in the advancement of science. As a result of this work, he founded SPERTI SUNLAMP to manufacture these appliances for the general public. Through the 60's, 70's, and early 80's, SPERTI SUNLAMP enjoyed a dominant position as a profitable supplier of products to the home market. In addition to high sales volume and a record of profitability, SPERTI SUNLAMP's customer list included the top 3 catalog sales organizations in North America (Service Merchandise, Sears, and J.C. Penney). SPERTI SUNLAMP was purchased in June of 1991 by KBD, Inc., a Kentucky held corporation. KBD is a successful manufacturing company with abundant capital resources and management experience that would be capable of regenerating the sunlamp business. The new ownership immediately reestablished the confidence of the primary catalog customers. In addition, KBD solidified its relationship with key suppliers and began to establish a new track record of financial responsibility for SPERTI SUNLAMP. The key personnel of the old company were quickly hired by KBD, and steps were taken to rebuild inventories, service equipment, computerize and stabilized operations. SPERTI SUNLAMP very quickly began its climb back to growth and profitability. In each of the succeeding quarters since the KBD acquisition, SPERTI SUNLAMP has been profitable. KBD, Inc. seeks to improve its position in the commercial suntanning market by providing excellent products and service to its customers.
